Oiva Toikka is one of the greatest names in Finnish design. His iconic collection of Iittala glass birds first took flight in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory. Created in close collaboration with the glassblowers, the collection combined Toikka’s passion for nature and blown glass art.
In 2014 the production of the series was transferred to the Iittala Glass Factory, where Toikka continued his close partnership with the team. Each mouthblown bird is unique down to the minutest detail.
Kuulas uses a simple rain coloured glass to showcase the bird’s plump body. Its flat tail and teardrop head are made of contrasting dark glass.
